YOGA with KRISTIN
Kristin’s Gentle Active Flow for Dancers is just as the name would imply: gentle, but active. This yoga class is designed specifically with dancers in mind, prioritizing flexibility, strength training, and rest equally for the purpose of preventing injuries of the body and mind. The world of dance is hard: to survive, you must care for yourself both physically and mentally. In this class, we do just that by working out and working in.
BARRE FITNESS with RACHEL
Rachel’s Barre Fitness for Dancers is a mindful, low-impact, and full-body workout. This class focuses on strengthening and lengthening the body’s most internal muscles for strong posture, proper alignment, and injury prevention. In this class, we will work the upper body, legs, glutes, and core. Rachel uses a mix of visual and anatomically based cues throughout the exercises to help dancers connect their minds to these muscle groups in a way that can improve balance, increase grace and fluidity, and expand range of motion.
CONTEMPORARY with KRISTIN
Kristin’s contemporary class focuses on centering both mind and body to enhance students' senses of physical, emotional, and artistic empowerment. Each class will include a comprehensive warm up comprised of guided improvisation and loosely structured micro phrases, followed by space-eating progressions on, in, across and off the floor, and a culminating combination rooted in curiosity and detail. Students are expected to have some comfort and interest in inversions and floor work.
CONTEMPORARY with RACHEL
Rachel’s contemporary class fuses Limón technique with Contemporary release technique. As class begins, dancers will explore falling off and returning to their center, a balance of weight and weightlessness in the upper body, a sense of groundedness and release into the floor, and the ability to smoothly transition from one place to the next. After a center warm-up, dancers will move expansively across the floor progressing into expressive and athletic phrase work.
REPERTORY with RACHEL
Rachel directs and choreographs ZACHOR, an ongoing project series that seeks to preserve the words of WWII Holocaust survivors through dance. In this Repertory class, students will learn excerpts of work created under ZACHOR and will learn about Rachel’s process of turning testimony into movement to create communicative and narrative-based choreography.
